ARGO-E GROUP Presents a Landfill Digital Twin at the 9th HSWMA Conference
ARGO-E GROUP is taking part in the 9th Conference of the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (HSWMA/ΕΕΔΣΑ), "Circular Cities 2030: From Planning to Implementation", held on 1–2 October 2026 at the historic buildings of the National Technical University of Athens on Patision Street.
On Friday 2 October (13:15–13:30, Room B, Session B4 "Smart Systems, Artificial Intelligence, Automation and Modelling"), Giannis Manousakis presents "Development of a Digital Twin for Landfill Monitoring and Management: Application at the Xerolakka Landfill, Achaia".
The platform brings seven UAV surveys, from 2019 to 2025, into a single browser-based environment: orthophotos, digital surface and terrain models (DSM/DTM), 3D meshes and point clouds. Users move along the timeline, switch between 2D and 3D, and compare surveys in the same space. They can map settlement and cover deformation, flag areas at risk of ponding and tensile strain, cut cross-sections, and compute volumes between any two surfaces.
The value of the approach lies in bringing all data into one common reference frame. Only then can real changes in the landfill be told apart from flight-to-flight differences, vegetation or, as at Xerolakka, the traces of a wildfire. The platform is designed to integrate methane sensor readings next, as a tool for post-closure care and restoration planning.
The talk includes a live demonstration of the platform. We look forward to seeing you there!
